2006-2007 Subaru WRX, SCCA D Stock
The 2006-2007 Subaru Impreza WRX has a lot of potential as an SCCA D Stock autocrosser. However, this highly competetive class has some pretty serious contendors like the Acura Integra Type R, BMW 330i, and VW R32. The bigger motor and brakes on the 2006-2007 WRX's will hopefully make the car a little more competetive. Here are some modiications we recommend...
Tires:
For a 2006-2007 WRX, you have quite a few choices for race rubber. You can choose from any of the Kumho DOT R rated tires (Victo V700, Ecsta V700, or Ecsta V710) as well as the Hoosier A6. Here are the individual tires and sizes that will work...
Kumho VictoRacer V700 (225/45/17 or 245/45R17)
Kumho ECSTA V700 (245/40ZR17)
Kumho ECSTA V710 (245/45ZR17)
Hoosier A6 (225/45ZR17 or 245/40/17)
Wheels:
Besides your stock WRX wheels, there are couple different aftermarket wheels which will work for stock class autocrossing. The stock WRX wheels, along with the Subaru SPT and Legacy GT wheels, are +55mm offset and the stock class rule is +/- 0.25 inches so you could technically use 6mm spacers (0.25-inch is just over 6 mm) or wheels as low as +49mm offset and still be legal for SCCA stock class. With the stock WRX wheels and Subaru SPT wheels we have listed below, we've heard of people running 3mm spacers up front. With the Kosei wheels, nobody seems to be running spacers (probably because you'd only be able to use a 1mm spacer to be legal). So, here are the wheels most drivers seem to be using...
Factory Subaru WRX Wheels (17x7 ET55 21lb)
Factory Subaru Legacy GT Wheels ((17x7 ET55 20lb)
Subaru SPT wheels (17x7 ET55 18lb)
Kosei K1 TS (17x7 ET50 14.6lb)
Suspension:
As of this writeup, there are not alot of legal suspension upgrades available for the 2006-2007 Subaru WRX. Hopefully KYB and Koni will step up with an adjustable damper, but so far they haven't. Stay tuned though, we will update this guide once one is available. Here are a few of the upgrades the fast guys are doing...
Whiteline 29mm solid front swaybar or Strano Performance front swaybar
Performance alignment
Interior:
The WRX's factory seats are relatively supportive, but one of your best upgrades would be a harness belt like the Schroth Rallye 4. These will make a HUGE difference over the factory seat belts. If you don't want to spring for a racing harness, then a CG-Lock would also work. Here are a few ideas...
Schroth Rallye 4 Harness Belt
CG-Lock
Miscellaneous:
There are a few other mods we might suggest for SCCA stock class autocross, but keep in mind these will not make a huge performance difference...
Drop in filter (STI performance panel, K&N, etc)
Cat Back exhaust (2.5" Prodrive highflow axleback, Supertrapp, etc)
Carbotech Bobcat brake pads
